ART IS FUN TOO

On Sunday 23 April the Hout Bay Gallery will host an exhibition of new work by Richard Scott. “Nursery Crimes” will be the first exhibition of Scott’s latest body of work following his acclaimed series “Wonderwomen”. The exhibition will feature a body of work inspired by nursery rhymes.

The idea to do nursery rhymes as a theme is an extension of a previous work where Scott painted a piece titled “As the pig jumped over the moon”. “I was delighted to discover people buying my paintings for their children so I wanted to focus on this theme” says Scott.

At the rate that his paintings are increasing in value every year it won’t be a surprise if it one day pays for their university education too.

This show will also appeal to an older audience with its cheeky take on the theme. For instance the familiar There was an old woman who lived in a shoe becomes There is a young woman who lives for her shoes.

This exhibition is about Scott having fun and will give collectors of his art the opportunity to enjoy something refreshing by an artist whose international reputation is growing. Scott’s paintings are known for their colourful and bold images and the words “pop art” are regularly slipped off the wagging tongues in art circles. His ability to speak to a wide audience that transcends age or geographical borders is well documented and this body of work is no exception.
