CITYSCAPES BY GAVIN RAIN

Gavin Rain will be exhibiting a new series of paintings titled Cityscapes at the Worldart gallery from 23 September to 12 October.

Many will be familiar with his pixelated paintings of which it is impossible to see the subject until the viewer takes a few steps back or looks at it through the lens of a camera.
Though he still produces works in this style – he was recently contracted to produce a series by the 2010 Fine Art Group (licensed under FIFA) – he has moved towards creating paintings that feature a more fluid method of paint application.

“I like to call it contemporary impressionism. It has many of the familiar impressionist characteristics, especially as far as the physicality of the paint is concerned, but taken to an almost expressionist level of abstraction – the texture has a life of its own”
says Gavin.

With this series of works, Gavin will be looking at the city, its landscape and those who live and move in it – from jagged skylines in the distance to dark moving figures in the foreground. The thick and rather unusual paint application evokes an emotional experience, creating a mood that is bound to linger in viewers’ minds.
