Khayalethu Witbooi arrived in Cape Town from the Eastern Cape with the firm belief that despite his lack of formal art education, he has what it takes to be a successful artist.
Nearly a year later he has attracted the attention of international urban art buyers, was offered a three-month residency at Greatmore Art Studios (http://www.greatmoreart.org/) and now has been invited to participate in a studio project based in the centre of Cape Town.

The painting above is his latest release and deals with the ideals and hopes the struggle years held and the confusion that is life in South Africa today for many. Has love and dignity been replaced by money and general moral decay? Is everything a lie? Interesting to know as well is that though the painting looks like a collage, it isn’t. Every mark was either painted or stencilled.

The painting is titled I.O.U. and is 150cm X 120cm in size. The medium is Spray and oil paint on canvas.
