With invitations to do public art projects in Washington DC and for the 2013 Venice Biennale completed successfully (view the video for the Venice performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKTAbKpxrbs) and two solo exhibitions – one in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg – as well as group show participation in Sydney, scheduled for 2014, things do not seem to be slowing down.

Mabulu is scheduled to have another solo show at Worldart opening on 8 November 2012.

“In the culture of Africans in general, the physique of a female adult has always contributed to the foreknowledge about her ability to be a good wife. For instance; black knees and strong hands say a lot about diligence, meaning that it would be suspicious if the woman is reedy since the household duties and bearing children demanded strength. I remember my paternal grandmother who gave birth to eight children before her forties, when she carried bales of samp, flower and oil on her head because they bought staple foods in large quantities. Every pot in our kitchen was so large and she carried these by herself. So, looking back at how people perceived a person capable of being a wife, the good looks played a minor part in what constitutes a wife to be.

Wedged in a niche between graffiti and classic portraiture, Kilmany-Jo Liversage paints visages in a style as
dichotomous as human nature itself. Her saturated canvasses exhibit control and abandon in equal measure, all
wrapped up with pop sensibility.
After his solo exhibition at Worldart earlier this year, two commissioned murals in Cape Town and participation in a group exhibition featuring art on skateboards in Germany, Khaya Witbooi has completed this painting. It is titled “The shiftings struggle”.

It has also lead to him being commissioned to do two public art projects – a mural for a cultural centre in Houtbay, Cape Town and a mural for a school in Grabouw, a town about 60km outside Cape Town.
A third opportunity that came about as a result of this exhibition is his inclusion in a group show scheduled to take place in Bremerhaven, Germany from 22 June 2013. The show is titled YOUNG VISIONS IN MOTION, curated by Kent Lingeveldt and will feature Witbooi’s work on a skateboard.
The other artists participating are Atang Tshikare, Tattoo artist Rico Swanepoel, Graffiti artist Nardstar and poet Toni Stuart.

Lenna is the name given to an image that has been in use since 1973 as the standard test image to compare digital images with. Today, the use of Playboy model Lenna’s image has been recognized as one of the most important events in the history of electronic imaging with her being referred to “The first lady of the Internet”.
In 1973, two researchers at the University of Southern California were hurriedly searching the lab for a good image to scan for a colleague’s conference paper. They had tired of their stock of usual test images and wanted something glossy to ensure good output and dynamic range. Just then, somebody happened to walk in with a recent issue of Playboy… Today Lenna (a Swedish model) helps handicapped people use computers.
