THE NATURE OF OUR PRESENCE

Ricky Lee Gordon may or may not be a name you are familiar with, but you are likely to have seen his work in a public space in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Istanbul or any of a number of places in the world.

His large scale murals, usually dealing with socially relevant issues, have attracted attention to the point where National Geographic selected him as one of ‘11 street art greats’ alongside the likes of Banksy while the Mail & Guardian nominated him as one of two hundred young people in SA who makes a difference.

We are pleased to announce that Ricky Lee Gordon, aka Freddy Sam, will have is first solo exhibition at the Worldart gallery in Cape Town from 5 to 27 March. The exhibition consists of recently completed paintings that are the result of an exploration of the relationship between human and nature.

“This body of work acts like a mirror; reflecting, fragmenting and distorting on the existence of man in nature and exploring the presence of nature. We map things out and then create our own perception, often distorting that perception,” says Gordon.

Making use of collage, abstraction and fragmentation, he has created a body of work that allows one to ponder and enjoy, and what more can one ask for when looking at an artwork?

The nature of our presence opens on March month’s First Thursday gallery night and concludes on 27 March 2015.
