JO’BURG MAN

Those who frequent a Cape Town bar in Long Street called Jo’burg will be familiar with the artwork by photographer Dale Yudelman and artist Arlene Amaler–Raviv shown above. It is titled Jo’burg Man and will also be familiar to those who frequent downtown Johannesburg where a billboard sized image of the work is displayed on the side of a building on the corner of Main and Simmond Streets.
Why do so many people love this piece? Is it because it suggests that in more than a hundred years, little has changed? Or is it the juxtaposition of a lone figure walking
through a busy city scene at the turn of the twentieth century that engages the viewer to look… and look again?
Be it as it may, this is a powerful work and it can be ordered via Worldart. For more information, click on Unique Offers above and then go to Dale Yudelman.
