Last Sunday, the winner of the Revlon Supermodel 2006 competition was announced at a gala event held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

As part of the Supermodel programme, Richard Scott was commissioned to produce an artwork of each of the eight Supermodel finalists and these were exhibited at the gala event.

The series, entitled “Aura”, came about while Richard was drawing the sketches in preparation for the final artworks. Richard sensed that the so called supermodels all, assumingly, possessed a  superhuman aura.

“Supermodels are of the most desirable, most untouchable elements of our society. I wanted to paint them in my style, to juxtapose their message with mine. The simplicity in my art taunts them, just like they taunt us”, says Richard.

While working on the Aura series, a camera crew documented Richard’s progress. The documentary will be aired on SABC2 on Friday 28 July at 6pm.

The exhibited artworks can be seen on the Richard Scott section of this website and each model’s name is next to the title of the artwork.
