THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE “BOOM”! – NORMAN O’FLYNN AT THE WORLDART GALLERY.

Norman O’Flynn’s second solo exhibition at the Worldart gallery in Cape Town will open on May 5. A collection of portraits in the artist’s characteristic stylised pop art vocabulary are the focus of the show. O’Flynn’s portraiture is distinctive and contemporary. It is rendered on transparent plexi-glass layers and reads like comic book illustration, or enlarged tattoos, evoking his fascination for popular culture. The transparent plexi-glass layers generate the “flat and shiny” look he favours, tying in with the strong pop art influence.

SORRY NOT SORRY BY LADY SKOLLIE

Local musician Simiso Zwane, known as Okmalumkoolkat, recently returned to South Africa after serving a one-month jail sentence in Tasmania, Australia, on charges of sexual assault.
The charges were laid after a fellow South African, who was on tour with the rapper, accused him of entering her hotel room and groping and kissing her against her will.

HOTTENTOT VENUS

Lady Skollie was invited by curators Azu Nwagbogu and Ruth Simbao to participate in a special project and competition at the 2016 Cape Town Art Fair titled “Consuming Us”. The body of work she presented for this exhibition was titled “Hottentot Skollie”.
